Abstract:

The focus of this special issue is 'The community college baccalaureate'. This issue describes the emerging trend of the community college baccalaureate (CCB) through the presentation of theories, models, and predictions about the future of the CCB. In an effort to contribute to the development of policy and practice, the researchers describe key policy issues and research challenges. While not the sole state presented, Florida's CCB model serves as the focal point of this special issue. Florida emphasizes the growth and impact of baccalaureate-degree granting community colleges as the leading US provider of CCBs.

Feature articles include: 'The community college baccalaureate: putting the pieces together' by Deborah L. Floyd, Kenneth P. Walker (p. 90-124); 'Theorizing about the emergence of the community college baccalaureate' by Michael L. Skolnik (p. 125-150); 'Perceptions and reflections of administrators: community colleges transitioning to baccalaureate colleges' by Edwin P. Bemmel, Deborah L. Floyd, Valerie C. Bryan (p. 151-176); 'The perceived effects of state governance decentralization on baccalaureate articulation' by Angela M. Garcia Falconetti (p. 177-194); 'Baccalaureate community colleges: the new Florida college system' by Deborah L. Floyd, Angela M. Garcia Falconetti, Michael R. Hrabak (p. 195-202); and 'The community college baccalaureate movement: cutting-edge dissertation research' by Michael R. Hrabak (p. 203-212).
