Abstract:
This chapter describes an initiative launched in the late 1990s by the Bolivian government, which was part of a campaign of educational reform and which was intended to transform adult education in Bolivia. It emphasises the role of partnerships between the Bolivian Ministry of Education, the Bolivian University, non-government organisations and the Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association (IIZ/DVV) in the initiative. It also emphasises the use of distance education in training educators in the field of youth and adult education. The chapter concludes that gaining recognition for youth and adult educators from the government and from society as a whole remains a challenge.
