Abstract:

This guide addresses the question 'How am I being assessed?' and provides information and examples on the process of assessment and formal recognition of skills and knowledge. It is presented in two parts. Part one, 'The new system for education and training', outlines the eight principles of education and training and covers: the Australian Qualifications Framework; units of competency; portability of training; recognition of prior learning; what is in a competency unit; transparency in training; relevance in education and training; and fairness to candidates. Part two, 'Learner's guide to assessment', discusses the process of assessment in detail. The following are included as appendices: Unit example: provide customer service; Portfolio for recognition of a customer service unit; Portfolio for a range of units.
