Abstract:

This article begins by providing an outline of the evolution of quality from the 1920s to the 1990s when the International Organisation for the Standardisation (ISO) was conceived. It then discusses the paradigm shift in quality and quality management systems (QMSs) and lists the eight management principles of QMS identified by ISO. The article seeks to emphasise that these principles are not to be taken independently from each other and demonstrates the dynamic relationship between principles.
