Abstract:

This publication reports on a research project in which the workplace basic skills defined by the Secretary’s Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS) were compared with skill frameworks developed by a variety of national and international organizations. The results showed that overall, there was a great deal in common between the SCANS skills set and the other frameworks in terms of skill definitions, and that the research yielded a comprehensive common language for the discussion and examination of workplace basic skills.
